Mark Plummer, Ricky Jones, John Hayes, Andrew Slattery and 128 other top Maine amateur golfers tee it up today at Brunswick Golf Club to compete in the 98th Maine Amateur Championship.

About the only top player not competing is the defending champion - Matt Hutchins. He moved to Florida and so there will be a new state title winner.

Ricky Jones (Samoset Resort GC) was runner up last year, finishing six strokes behind Hutchins. Jones is a 3-time MSGA winner and only Mark Plummer has won more times.

Speaking of Augusta's Mark Plummer, he is a 13-time winner. It has been 15 years since his last Maine Amateur win.

Hayes and Slattery are two other former champions in the field.

Husson University golfer Gavin Dugas finished tied for fifth place last year. He placed 16th earlier in the spring at the D-III national NCAAs.

The tourney is a three-day event with 54 holes of stroke play.
