The best Class B teams in Eastern Maine took to the Cross Insurance Center floor Wednesday to decide who would advance to the regional finals.

Medomak Valley Ends MDI’s Cinderella Run

The top-seed Medomak Valley Panthers ended the MDI High School’s Cinderella run through the Eastern Maine Tournament, beating the young Trojans 59-47 Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Medomak’s Micah Williamson had 20 points -- including 8 of 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter – and earned player of the game honors. Nick DePatsy added 18 points for the Panthers.

MDI hung tough though three quarters, but were forced to foul late in the game, sending Medomak to the line, where they converted. MDI finished the season at 7-14 after beating the higher-seeded Ellsworth and Gardiner to earn a trip to the semifinals.

Medomak (18-2) will take on the No. 2 Winslow Black Raiders (18-2) on Saturday in the Eastern Maine championship. The teams split their regular season match-ups.

Winslow Black Raiders Oust State Champs in Tight Game

In a back-and-forth battle, the Winslow Black Raiders knocked off the defending state champion Old Town Coyotes 48-44 Wednesday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 3 Coyotes led for much of the game, but the No. 2 Black Raiders came back in the second half and gained control in the fourth quarter, helped by three timely 3-pointers from senior Colby Robertson.

Robertson finished with 14 points and Justin Martin added 10 in the win.

For Old Town, Eric Hoogterp finished with 17 points.

Winslow will play the winner of Medomak Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Presque Isle Beats Hermon; Will Face Gardiner in Final

The Presque Isle Wildcats ended the Hermon Hawks upset streak in convincing fashion on Wednesday with a 74-53 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 2 Wildcats (18-2) had little trouble with the No. 11 Hawks who had advanced to the semifinals with upset wins over Medomak Valley and John Bapst.

Hannah Graham led Presque Isle with 20 points. Krystal Kingsbury and Taylor Williams each had 16 points in the win.

Shelby Caron led the Hawks in scoring with 8 points. Hermon ends their season with a 10-11 record.

Presque Isle’s two losses during the regular season came to the Mount Desert Island Trojans, who were upset by the Gardiner Tigers in the quarterfinal round.

Presque Isle will play Gardiner in the Eastern Maine Championship at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Cross Insurance Center. Gardiner defeated Camden Hills 53-42 in the other girls semifinal on Wednesday.
