Maine Women's Hockey Falls To Providence In Overtime Thriller

The Maine Women's Hockey Team fell to the Providence Friars 3-2 in overtime on Friday, October 31st in their 1st Hockey East Conference game.

Providence took a 1-0 lead with just 31 seconds gone in the 1st Period, but the Black Bears answered with 2:16 gone, on Frederikke Foss' goal, assisted by Ali Altiman and Danielle Brunette.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the 1st Period.

Providence took the lead 2-1 with another quick goal, this coming 27 seconds gone in the 2nd. But it took Maine just 27 seconds to tie the game at 2-2. Lily Fetch scored, assisted by Ava Stevenson and Isabelle Michaud.

The game remained tied thru regulation. With just 37.4 seconds left in overtime Providence scored the winning goal, as Maine was denied the tie.

Both Maine and Providence w4ere 0-1 on the power play.

Providence outshot Maine 33-22. Kiia Lahtinen had 30 saves for the Black Bears.

Maine is now 2-6-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Hockey East, while Providence is 3-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Hockey East. The 2 teams will play Saturday afternoon, November 1st in Providence. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the puck dropping at 3 p.m.

Maine will play Boston University at the Alfond on November 7th at 3 p.m. and November 8th at 3:30 p.m.
