Former Messalonskee High School standout Nick Mayo grabbed more hoops headlines over the weekend. A buzzer-beating shot to give his Colonels a win over High Point University (NC).

Mayo's EKU team trailed by as many as 23 points before mounting the comeback.

Mayo finished the game with 30 points and 10 rebounds. EKU improved its record to 4-4.

The 6-foot-9 former Messalonskee Eagle is again on the Lou Henson Award Watch List (third straight year). The award goes to the top mid-major Division I player. Mayo is averaging 24.7 ppg, 9.1 rpg and is shooting 95% from the free throw line.

NOTE:  Mayo is 47 points away from becoming Eastern Kentucky's all-time leading scorer. He has 1,785 career points heading into Wednesday night's game vs University of South Carolina-Upstate.
