For the UMaine women's basketball team, the road to an America East Conference title began Monday with the first formal practice of the season.

Coach Amy Vachon and her Black Bears won the AE title a year ago and then took on the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the NCAAs. It had been 13 years since their last NCAA appearance.

With the exception of guard Julie Brosseau (11 PPG), who transferred to the Utah, the Black Bears return all of their starters.
