Mixed Martial Arts Returns To Bangor In August
A Mixed Martial Arts show will be held in Bangor for the first time in a year, as New England Fights announced a date in the Queen City for August 5th.
The promotion will return to the Cross Insurance Center for NEF 30: Rumble In Bangor. The event will mark the first time the NEF has been in Bangor since August 5th of 2016, when they held a filming of Dana White’s Looking For A Fight in the city. At that 2016 card, Southern Maine’s Devin Powell impressed the UFC President enough to earn a deal with the promotion. Powell will make his second fight for the UFC on June 24th when he faces Darrell Horcher.
Expected to fight on the card at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor is NEF Lightweight champion Ryan Sanders, who won the belt in April versus Jon Lemke, along with Young’s MMA teammates Aaron Lacey, Fred Lear, and CJ Ewer.
The NEF has held shows in Bangor at the Cross Insurance Center, as well as holding an event on the Bangor Waterfront back in 2013.
The promotion recently just ran NEF 29 in Lewiston this past weekend, with former Bangor area standout Ray Wood losing in the main event to Alexandre Bezerra. Other results included former Husson basketball standout Josh Jones setting a new record for quickest knockout with a victory over Anthony Spires in four seconds. Bangor's Pat Kelly also took home the 155 pound amateur title with a decision victory over Rafael Velado, becoming the oldest MMA champion in NEF history at 52. The boxing main event of the duel event card was a no-contest after an accidental headbut by Russell Lamour against Bruce Boyngton.
