Gustav Nyquist and his Team Sweden won a bronze medal at the IIHF World Hockey Championships. Russia won gold, Finland won silver. The USA team lost in the quarterfinal round.

Sweden defeated the Czech Republic 3-0 for the bronze medal.

Nyquist, the former UMaine Black Bear and now Detroit Red Wing, score 4 goals and added 2 assists in the 10 games of world championship play.

Nyquist and his Red Wings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs in the first round by the Boston Bruins.

The IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) conducts the world championships. This year's tournament was held in Belarus.
