The body of former UMaine and Kansas City Chief Jovan Belcher has been exhumed from a cemetery in New York at the request of his family. The family wants to know if CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) a brain disease caused by repeated head injuries.had an impact on what happened in Kansas City a year ago.

Last December, Belcher killed his longtime girlfriend and then killed himself. His family, and medical experts want more clues as to why it all happened. Belcher was in his fourth year as a linebacker for the KC Chiefs.

CTE has been discovered in several NFL football players. The degenerative disease has been linked to depression, dementia, memory loss, agression and even suicide.

Belcher was named the CAA defensive player of the year in 2008, his senior year at Maine.
