Former UMaine shortstop Jeremy Pena has earned a spot in next week's Class A Midwest League All Star Game. He plays for Quad Cities River Bandits, an minor league team for the Houston Astros.

Pena was drafted in the third round last year by the Astros and elected to turn pro, giving up his senior year at UMaine.

In 59 games for Quad Cities, Pena is hitting .308 (4th in the league) with four HRs and 38 RBI. He has 15 stolen bases.

Pena and his Quad Cities team sits #1 in the Western Division of the Midwest League with a 41-22 record.

The MWL All Star game is next Tuesday in South Bend, Indiana.

NOTE: Former Black Bear catcher Christopher Bec, who was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 5th round last year, is playing for the Dunedin Blue Jays in the Florida State League Class A (Adv). In 23 games he is hitting .286 with a homer and 10 RBI. He has 13 steals.
