The Penobscot Valley Howlers advanced to the regional title game with a Friday night semifinal win over the Stearns Minutemen.

No. 9 Stearns trailed for most of the game, but was able to cut the lead to just two points with 9.8 seconds left in the game. A Minuteman three-pointer missed and the Howlers' Lexi Ireland was able to seal the game with two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining.

When the buzzer sounded, Penobscot Valley came away with a 41-37 win.

Ireland, a junior, led the No. 4 Howlers with 25 points. She made 11 free throws in the contest.

For Stearns, sophomore Katie Kenyon had 12 poiints. Junior Katherine Alley had 10 points and Allison Alley added seven points.

Penobscot Valley will play Dexter for the Class C North title at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
