The new Portland ECHL hockey team is getting closer to an actually mascot name after the franchise announced the final five nicknames on Thursday afternoon.

Among the final five names include the Watchmen, Wild Blueberries, Puffins, Mariners, and Lumberjacks.  The Mariners nickname was used for the AHL team in Portland from 1977-1992 before the team relocated and became the Providence Bruins.  The Lumberjacks have been used before too as the name for a professional minor league team in Bangor for two seasons starting in 2003, as well as a former CBA team based in Bangor during the late 1970s.

Voting is now open for voting on PortlandMaineHockey.com.  Which name do you think is the best one to represent the new hockey team in Portland?
