Pushard Leads Brewer Past Hampden [SCORES]
Last year Brewer played all their games away from home. They opened the new season back at home and beat the defending Eastern Maine Champion Hampden Broncos 43-38.The Witches played at the Cross Center last season while the school went through renovations. They returned Friday night to open the season and got 13 points from junior Matt Pushard who also controlled the defensive boards all night, and another 13 points from Jared St. Thomas to lead the Brewer offense.
After Hampden cut the lead to two points late in the game, Brewer was able to seal the win by hitting 7 of 8 foul shots over the final minute.
Hampden suffers their first loss since the 2012-13 season and was led by Brendan McIntyre's 10 points.
Hampden won the girls game 35-30 behind 10 points from freshman Brooklyn Scott. The other top scorers for the Broncos are also freshman as Sophia Narofsky finished with 8 points and Marissa Gilpin had 7.
