Rockland’s Ricky Jones Grabs 1st Round Lead

Ricky Jones has won the Maine Amateur twice in his career. His 1st round on Tuesday puts him in great position to win his third.Jones birdied 3 of the last 5 holes at the Augusta Country Club to finish 4-under-par 66. The round totaled 4 birdies in all and no bogies.

Ryan Gay who is a 3-time champion leads a group that finished 1-under-par 69. Gay's round also included 4 birdies, but also 3 bogies including back-to-back on holes 3 and 4.

Mark Plummer who has won this tournament 13 times kept himself in contention shooting 1-over-par 71 while defending champ Seth Sweet of Madison came in at 5-over 75.

The second round starts at 7am Wednesday with the final round on Thursday.
