Penalties killed the UMaine Black Bear hockey team again in Durham, New Hampshire Friday night as the Wildcats win 5-1 in the first game in this home-and-home series.

UMaine's Mitch Fossier got the Bears on the board first - a powerplay score.

But in the second period, two UNH powerplay goals, both by Tyler Kelleher, gave the Wildcats a lead they would not give up.

UNH added three even strength goals in the third.

Maine goalies Rob McGovern and Matt Morris combined for 23 save. UNH goalie Daniel Tirone also made 23 saves.

The Black Bears fall to 1-5-1 In Hockey East (5-8-3 overall).

UNH now 4-1-1 in Hockey East (7-6-2 overall)

Game two of the series tonight at Alfond Arena in Orono.
