26-year-old lefty Jack Wyman from Falmouth is 2017 Maine Amateur Golf Champion, beating Deer Isle's Sam Grindle by two strokes today at the Brunswick Golf Club. It is his first amateur title.

Wyman shot a 2-over par score (74) on the final day and it was good enough for the victory despite taking a double-bogey on the final hole. He finished with a three-day total of 5-under par (211).

Wyman began the day leading Joe Alvarez by three shots but a triple bogey on the 11th hole did in Alvarez and he finished tied for 9th place.

Camden HIlls High School golfer Cole Anderson closed in on Wyman, but he finished the front nine with a double-bogey and a bogey. That ended hopes for Anderson. He finished in third place at 2-under (214).

That left Grindle to make a charge. He birdied four out of five holes in the middle of his round but then finished with three bogeys late in the round. He finished as the runner up, 3-under (213).

Wyman, who took a four shot lead into the final hole, finished the tourney with four birdies, four bogeys, the last hole double-bogey and nine pars.

And the Maine State Amateur title.
