15 years ago UMaine hockey won its second national championship after taking down UNH 3-2 at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California. Friday night that team will be honored before the Bears play BU.

That 1999 team included players such as Steve Kariya, Marcus Gastafsson, Corey LaRose, Niko Dimitrakos, Doug Janik, Ben Guite (current assistant coach), Alfie Michaud, Peter Metcalf and Dan Keruke.

The Bears finished with a 31-6-4 record. The team recieved an at-large bid to get into the NCAA playoffs and went to beat Ohio State and Clarkson to get to the Frozen Four.

In Anaheim, the Bears knocked off Boston College is the semi-final 2-1. In the national championship game, Maine beat UNH 3-2 on a Gastafsson goal.

It was Maine's second hockey title.

Team members will be recognized before the game Friday night at Alfond Arena. Friends of Maine Hockey will host a post-game reception.
