Plourde, from Newcastle (Lincoln Academy), is a sophomore at Centre College in Kentucky. She is the reigning Maine Women's Amateur champion, winning the title at Rockland Golf Course last July.

In her first round at the NCAAs, Plourde fired a 1-under par 71 to lead the national field. She was the only golfer to shoot under par. Plourde carded two birdies, one bogey and 15 pars and holds a two stroke lead.
