Former UMaine defenseman Jack Capuano is now the associate coach in Ottawa under new head coach D.J. Smith.

Capuano had been the associate head coach of the Florida Panthers for the past two seasons but when Joel Quenneville was hired to be the new head coach, he brought in his own staff.

In Ottawa, Smith was brought in as new head coach after spending four seasons as an assistant with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Capauno had been head coach of the New York Islanders for seven seasons before his Florida coaching stint.

Capuano played for the Black Bears from 1985 to 1988 and scored 32 goals as a defenseman, tied with Andre Aubut for most by a Black Bear defenseman.
