Two players from Maine made 2014 Opening Day MLB appearances on Monday. Baltimore's Ryan Flaherty and Seattle's Charlie Furbush both saw action. Three former Senior League World Series players also were a part of the action.

In the Red Sox vs Orioles game, Portland's Ryan Flaherty started at third base. He went 0 for 3. The Birds beat Boston 2-1.

Lefty pitcher Charlie Furbush, from South Portland, came out of the bullpen for the Mariners. He pitched a third of an inning, giving up one hit.

Among former SLWS players who played in Bangor...21-year-old Xander Bogaerts became the youngest shortstop to start for Boston since 1914. Bogaerts played for Team Curacao in Bangor. Monday he had a double in three plate appearances.

Jonathan Schoop, also from Team Curacao, was Baltimore's starting second baseman and went 1 for 3.

Kolton Wong was St.Louis Cardinals starting second baseman Monday. He played for Team Hawaii in Bangor. Wong had a hit and a walk in the Cards 1-0 win over Cincy.
