David Gross of the Bucksport wrestling team has been named First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week after setting a new record for the state's fastest pin.

Gross, who won with 35 percent of the vote, pinned Morse's Hayden Thompson in just 4 seconds.

The previous record was set in Dec. 2014, when Brett Gerry of Marshwood pinned his opponent in just 5 seconds.

The junior sat out last season with a knee injury but was heavyweight state champion in Class B as a freshman.

Other nominees this week included Lauren Cook of Calais, Derek Collin of MDI, Silver Clukey of Winslow and Cait Tracy of Hermon.

Matt Fleming of Bangor, Orono's Connor Robertson, Bangor's Nick Boudreau and Rowan Andrews of Bangor have also earned Athlete of the Week honors during the 2018-19 winter sports season.
