Jeremy Swayman Wins Olympic Gold With Team USA

The University of Maine alumnus and Boston Bruin won gold with Team USA on Sunday, February 22nd, over Canada.

Before being drafted by the Boston Bruins, Jeremy Swayman spent three seasons playing college hockey for the Maine Black Bears.

Swayman played three seasons of college hockey with the Maine Black Bears, where he quickly became one of the nation’s top goaltenders.

During the 2019–20 season, Swayman posted an impressive .939 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average, earning both Hockey East Player of the Year honors and the Mike Richter Award as college hockey’s top goaltender.

Team USA defeated Canada 2–1 as Jack Hughes scored just 1:41 into overtime, securing the Americans’ first gold medal since 1980.

Hughes finished a pass from Zach Werenski with the game-winning goal past goalie Jordan Binnington and afterward celebrated the victory by praising his teammates and calling the moment an unbelievable show of pride and unity for USA Hockey.

Swayman served as a backup goaltender for Team USA during their gold medal run, contributing to the Americans’ championship effort.

Starting one game—a 6–3 preliminary-round win over Denmark—Swayman also served as the backup in another matchup and was listed as a healthy scratch for three additional games.
