MDI's Kyle Nicholson and Mattanawcook Academy's Max Woodman were medalists at the Penobscot Valley Conference Golf Championship held in Lincoln on Thursday.

Nicholson fired a 3-over par 75 to lead the Trojans to the Class B PVC title. He was named PVC Player of the Year. MDI's team total was 340.

Hermon finished in second place with a team total of 360. Both teams qualify for the state championship team tournament next Saturday.

Woodman shot a 76 and that was tops among Class C players. He was named PVC Class C Player of the Year. His Lynx team finished in third place. Houlton won the Class C championship with a score of 350.

Four Class C teams qualified for the state tourney - Houlton, Orono, Mattanawcook Academy and George Stevens Academy.

NOTE: Gabbie James from MDI was the girls medalist with a score of 89 and won PVC Player of the Year Class B. Houlton's Rita Vegas won Player of the Year honors in Class C...James was the lone girl to also qualify for the state individual title...16 boys qualified for the individual title...Mt. Ararat (Class A) and Medomak Valley (Class B) won the KVAC Golf Shootout on Thursday. Both teams win KVAC title and get entrance to the state team championships next Saturday. The KVAC qualifier for the state is next Tuesday.
