Mack, Smith Lead Nation In Rushing
Think about this... college football's leading rushers play right here in Maine. In the FCS division it's UMaine sophomore RB Josh Mack and in Division III football it's Husson senior RB John Smith.
Mack leads FCS teams across the country with 139.9 rushing yards per game He leads in total rush yards with 979.. And, keep in mind, that's in seven games (UMaine's game vs UCF was cancelled) while most runners have played eight games.
There are 123 schools in the FCS division.
Mack rushed for 99 yards in Saturday's win over William & Mary. The Black Bears play Delawae Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
Husson University senior John Smith jumped to the top spot in Division III after Saturday's 247 yard performance vs Anna Maria College. He is averaging 185.9 yards per game. His 1,487 total rush yards is #2 in the nation.
Smith has rushed for 20 TDs and that is #3 in Division III.
There are 243 schools in Divisiion III football.
