
#12 Maine Hockey Explodes for 8 Goals Beating #5 BU 8-5
The #12 Maine Hockey Team exploded for 8 goals beating #5 Boston University 8-5 on Saturday night, November 1st, sweeping the weekend series at the Alfond Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 4980.
The game didn't start off well for the Black Bears as BU scored with just 36 seconds gone. But Maine's Charlie Russell scored the 1st of his 2 goals on the night, just 23 seconds later. Russell's goal was assisted by Max Scott and Justin Poirier.
Maine made it 2-1 with 11:47 gone on Jeremy Langlois' goal, assisted by Jaden Lipinski and Thomas Freel.
It was 3-1 with 12:21 when Owen Fowler scored, assisted by Sully Scholle and Lukas Peterson. That goal, chased BU's starting goalie, as Mikhail Yegerov let 3 goals in on 5 shots. Max Lacroix skated in to relieve him.
Maine led 3-1 at the end of the 1st Period.
The 2nd Period saw Maine and BU combine for 6 goals!
BU scored with 5:04 gone to make it 3-2 Maine.
The Black Bears answered with a goal midway thru the Period, when Justin Poirier scored assisted by Charlie Russell at 10:08. Maine led 4-2.
BU scored on a short-handed goal 1:50 later to make it 4-3.
Maine answered with a power play goal by Max Scot assisted by Josh Nadeau and Brandon Holt. That goal came with 6:58 left in the 2nd Period. Maine led 5-3.
It was 6-3 just 1:54 later when Charlie Russell scored, assisted by Brandon Holt and Lukas Peterson.
BU scored on a power play with 1:50 left in the 2nd Period and the score after the 2nd Period was Maine 6 BU 4
Maine would score a shorthanded goal with 1:29 gone in the 3rd Period when Max Scott scored assisted by Thomas Freel to make the score 7-4.
BU scored their 2nd shorthanded goal of the night with 3:18 gone to make it 7-5.
Maine finished the scoring, on an empty-netter by Oskar Komarov assisted by Thomas Pichette and Brandon Holt with 2:43 to play.
Maine outshot BU 46-31. Mathis Rousseau finished with 26 saves in net for Maine.
BU falls to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-0 in Hockey East. Maine improves to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in Hockey East.
Maine is at UMass on Thursday November 6th at 7 p.m. and Friday, November 7th at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on 92.9 The Ticket with the pregame with Jon Shields starting at 6:30 p.m. The Black Bears return to the Alfond November 14 and 15th with a weekend series with Vermont.
