Another UMaine Black Bear will be heading to the professional ranks, after a former captain inked a new deal.

Blaine Byron signed a deal with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League.  Byron joins other UMaine seniors Cam Brown and Eric Schurhamer as players that have also gone pro from the 2016-17 team.

Byron logged 46 goals in 145 games at UMaine and will be part of the AHL team associated with the Florida Panthers.  The Thunderbirds came in existence after the Portland Pirates relocated to western Massachusetts a year ago.

Schurhamer signed with the Manchester Monarchs after the college season and Brown inked a deal with the Wheeling Nailers, both of the ECHL.
