Foxcroft Academy’s Matt Spooner Wins Athlete of the Week Honors
Matt Spooner of Foxcroft Academy has been named First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week after scoring two touchdowns in the Ponies' 43-26 win against Bucksport in the D North title game.
The senior quarterback rushed for a game-high 139 yards.
He scored on a 4-yard keeper in the third quarter, giving Foxcroft a 27-12 lead. The Ponies took a 36-18 lead on Spooner's 59-yard touchdown run with 4:17 remaining in the game.
Foxcroft will play Wells in the Class D title game at UMaine Orono on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was pushed back a day due to snow. You can hear live coverage of the game beginning at 7 p.m. on sports radio 92.9 The Ticket.
This week's nominees also included David Wilson of Nokomis, Zack Elowitch of Portland and Mitch Lienert of Brunswick.
